According to reports by PM News, The police in Benin has arrested Edward Rotimi Olayebi, son of the proprietor of King of Kings Junior Secondary School, for allegedly assaulting 11 female students of the school. The suspect is also the administrator of the school.
Residents around the school premises began to raise eyebrow when some of the female students stayed behind after normal school hours till between 5pm and 6pm everyday.
The neighbours were said to have reported their observation to some of the parents who in turn questioned their daughters and allegedly obtained confession of sexual escapades of the school administrator.
The parents thereafter reported the incident to the Child Protection Network, an NGO which has been in the forefront of ensuring justice for victims of sexual assault.
Parents and members of the network led by its co-odinator, Jennifer Ero, staged a protest to the school, demanding for justice.
Irked by the attitude of the school owners who locked the school gate to prevent the protesters from gaining entrance into the school premises, the protesters forced their way into the school after breaking the padlock on the gate and forcefully chased students out of the school.
Ero said they were informed about the suspects sexual activities with the students through their hotlines. She noted that investigations showed that six of the 11 students were sexually abused.
She said they were working towards ensuring that the suspect is charged to court.
State Police spokesman, DSP Friday Uwoh Noble confirmed the arrest and said investigation is ongoing.
